Kalighat painting depicts a tale of Sati's body that was dismembered by Lord Vishnu using his sudarshan chakra, a celestial weapon, and the fragments fell to the ground. There were 52 pieces of the body in total, and they landed in 52 separate locations. There is a Kali or Shakti temple in each of these locations, which are together referred to as the 52 Shakti pithas in Hinduism. Lord Shiva went back to Mount Kailash to reflect and lament the loss of his wife. Goddess Sati eventually assumed the form of Parvati and rejoined Lord Shiva. The painting is in excellent condition and size is 28"x20" and it comes without a frame.
