Vajri or foot scrubbers originated in India and were most likely used in the early late 18th century. Women bathing in a small lake or stream used these exquisite objects as foot scrubbers. These vajris have axles (small metal balls) inside it that cause them to ring or jingle when it is used. It was to warn others to maintain the bathing women having privacy and avoid the place. Antique brass ones appear to have been common, and they were created in a range of forms and ornamented with just an animal pattern, such as a bird, elephants, leopard etc. The contoured bottom is just what makes them useful and user-friendly.
