Sold

An element of the Hindu goddess Durga (Parvati), who is revered widely in West Bengal and Odisha and most lavishly during the yearly puja conducted in Kolkata's Hooghly neighborhood during the Kartik month, is depicted in the kalighat painting of Jagadhatri. The goddess is mounted on a lion that is holding the trunk of an elephant in its mouth after killing it, which is seen between the lion's forelegs. She is depicted with four arms and a red attire, honoring Vishnu with a discus and conch in her upper hands and a bow and arrow in her lower hands. Her higher commitment to Shiva is indicated by a third eye in her forehead and a serpent sprouting above her left shoulder. The painting is in excellent condition and size is 28"x20" and it comes without a frame.
